How to treat a child for a cold and infection

Every family experiences this moment: just yesterday the child was running, laughing, and asking for ice cream, and today — a hot forehead, a stuffy nose, and a quiet "mom, my throat hurts." Colds in children always come suddenly and make parents worry. However, in most cases, proper care, timely treatment, and immune support help the body quickly cope with the infection.

Why children get sick so often

A child's immune system is still developing, so it is much more sensitive to viruses and bacteria. This is especially noticeable during the period of attending kindergarten or school, when contact with new microorganisms becomes daily.

The most common causes of colds in children are: viral infections (ARVI); hypothermia;
contact with sick people; weakened immunity after stress or fatigue.

The first symptoms usually include a runny nose, sore throat, cough, weakness, and fever. It is important to respond to these signs immediately, without waiting for the condition to worsen.

Basic principles of treating colds in children

When a child is sick, the main task of parents is to create conditions in which the body can overcome the infection faster.

1. Rest regimen

The body needs energy to fight viruses, so the child needs rest. It is not necessary to stay in bed all the time, but active play should be temporarily limited.

2. Plenty of fluids

Warm drinks help reduce intoxication, moisturize the mucous membranes, and improve well-being. Suitable options include water, herbal teas, compotes, and warm milk.

3. Air humidification

Dry air irritates the mucous membranes of the nose and throat, so it is worth ventilating the room and maintaining adequate humidity levels.

4. Temperature control

If the temperature exceeds 38–38.5°C, a doctor may recommend antipyretics. However, a slight fever is a natural response of the body to infection.

How to help a child with a sore throat

Sore throat is one of the most unpleasant symptoms of a cold in children. It makes swallowing difficult, causes coughing, and general discomfort.

In such cases, it is important to use remedies that relieve pain and help fight the cause of inflammation.

One of these natural solutions is Lizam from the "Tibetan formula." This remedy is designed to combat infectious-inflammatory diseases of the mucous membrane of the throat and oral cavity — such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis, and stomatitis.

The medication has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving effects, which help reduce throat discomfort and speed up recovery.

The key component of the remedy is lysozyme — a natural enzyme found in tears, saliva, and mucous membranes of the body. Its main function is to destroy the outer layer of harmful bacteria and the cell walls of microorganisms. Thanks to this, lysozyme helps the immune system fight infection more effectively.

In addition, it prevents pathogenic microorganisms from attaching to mucous membranes and stops their active reproduction.

Immune support during illness

During a cold, a child's body uses a lot of resources, so it is important to support its natural defense mechanisms.

Helpful can be: light and nutritious food;
adequate sleep; vitamins and minerals; regular room ventilation.

It is also important to remember that antibiotics are not used for a common viral cold without a doctor's prescription, as they only work against bacteria.

When to see a doctor

In most cases, a cold passes within 5–7 days. However, there are situations when a doctor's consultation is mandatory:

  • fever lasting more than three days;

  • severe pain in the throat or ears;

  • difficulty breathing;

  • a sudden worsening of the child's condition.

A pediatrician can assess the symptoms, determine the cause of the illness, and prescribe the correct treatment.

The main rule for parents

The most important thing during a child's illness is calm and care. A warm atmosphere at home, proper care, and the use of effective remedies help the body cope with the infection faster.

And although it is impossible to completely avoid children's colds, careful attention to health and immune support help make these periods much shorter and easier.
